A pleated atmosphere in dialogue with EP YAYING
NAKED SPACE collaborates with fashion house EP YAYING, in their newest concept store in Shanghai- Bouglang, translating their iconic pleating technique into a full-body, first-person spatial language—light, air, and breath in motion.
Shadowfold is a runway built from air.
In collaboration with Yaying, this installation translates the label’s signature pleating into a first-person spatial silhouette—an immersive couture, where form folds light and breath into structure.
We began at the source: a visit to Yaying’s pleating atelier, where fabric is rhythmically trained to hold motion. Machines pulse with breath-like precision. That choreography—mechanical yet intimate—inspired our architectural approach to folding.
Air becomes fabric. Light becomes thread. Shoji paper acts as both skin and skeleton, tracing invisible volumes that drift and shift as bodies move through them. The space dresses the viewer. It pleats perception.
Rather than mimicking garment design, Shadowfold expands it—into an environment where shadows drape and fold like silk, and light behaves as a fluid textile. The installation rethinks what it means to wear space, to inhabit softness, to walk through a moving seam.

This work continues NAKED SPACE’s dialogue with air as couture—ephemeral, reactive, and sensorial. A pleat of atmosphere.
