NAKED SPACE

A surface displaced from its geography.

The first edition of PRINTED MATTER borrows its surface from the sand of Playa de Bogatell during a Barcelona summer. A fragment of the beach is captured, treated, and transferred onto cotton, relocating the visual texture of the shore onto an object that can be carried, worn, and lived with.

PRINTED MATTER is an ongoing series exploring the regeneration of existing site-specific surfaces through everyday objects. Each edition begins with a place—its textures, traces, and material memory—and removes a surface from its original geography to give it another use and context.

BOGATELL began with the shifting grains of the Mediterranean shoreline. What was temporary underfoot becomes a soft, portable surface: part textile, part spatial record.

Following its first activation in Berlin as part of a screening intervention, BOGATELL continues to move between contexts, carrying with it a fragment of where it began.
