SOFANOVA is a 1.5-meter diameter collective seating object, constructed from recyclable PVC tarpaulin and inflated through a low-pressure air system. Its circular geometry and continuous surface are designed to reduce spatial separation, encouraging closer proximity and shared orientation among users.
The structure uses air as both form and function—providing a soft yet stable seating condition that adapts to shifting body weights and collective use. Its lightweight and modular nature allows for easy transport, installation, and reconfiguration across different contexts.
Originally conceived as a seating device, SOFANOVA operates as a spatial tool for gathering. It subtly choreographs how bodies sit, lean, and relate, minimizing “in-between” gaps and reinforcing a sense of collective presence.
The project has since expanded into a platform for activation, where each deployment takes the form of a site-specific installation. Through variations in scale, arrangement, and environmental curation (sound, light, spatial context), SOFANOVA supports a range of actions—from informal encounters to programmed events.
